Thriving farmers markets at the heart of communities across the UK are being celebrated as part of the Farm Retail Awards 2026.
Three of the very best from around the country have been shortlisted for prestigious national recognition, having impressed the judges with their commitment to local produce and supporting local economies, as well as creating enjoyable and engaging shopping experiences while promoting fresh, sustainable food.
Organised by the Farm Retail Association (FRA), the Awards are proudly sponsored by Fieldfare – suppliers of award-winning frozen food sold loose, so you can buy as much as you want but not more than you need.
The Awards are judged by fellow farm retailers and celebrate the very best in British farm retail and this year, they come at a time when the sector is stepping confidently into the spotlight.
The role of farmers markets, farm shops and pick-your-own enterprises in providing both a platform for exceptional produce, and essential community hubs offering authenticity, trust and connection is being highlighted by the FRA’s national ‘More Than Food’ campaign.
Earlier this year, FRA members also took part in a global campaign co-ordinated by the World Farmers Markets Coalition which, following a survey of 52 farmers markets in 16 countries, found that the average farmers market offers 140 different varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, grains and legumes.
Emma Mosey, Chair of the Farm Retail Association, said:
“Farmers Markets are at the heart of their communities, connecting people directly with the producers who grow and make their food. They give farmers and producers a vital local route to market, showcasing the very best of fresh, seasonal produce. More than just a place to shop, Farmers Markets bring communities together, strengthen local economies and champion sustainable food. This award celebrates the very best of these markets and the role they play in keeping our food culture alive and thriving.”
