The Farm Retail Association (FRA) is delighted to join the global community in celebrating World Farmers Markets Week from 4th to 10th August.
This annual event, spearheaded by the World Farmers Markets Coalition, highlights the vital role farmers markets play in connecting consumers with local producers and fostering vibrant communities.
With over 1,070 markets held annually across the UK, the FRA represents a thriving network of farm shops and Farmers Markets. These markets are at the heart of our local economies, providing a platform for farmers and producers to showcase the finest, freshest produce while supporting sustainable agriculture and food miles.
World Farmers Markets Week offers an opportunity to celebrate the diverse range of products available at our markets, from seasonal fruits and vegetables to artisan cheeses, baked goods and other farmed produce. It’s a chance to savour the unique flavours of the British countryside and support the hard-working individuals behind these businesses.
“Farmers markets are more than just places to buy food,” said Emma Mosey, Chair of the Farm Retail Association. “They are community hubs that bring people together, promote local economies, and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable food system. We encourage everyone to visit their local farmers’ market this week and discover the incredible range of products on offer.”
The FRA is committed to supporting its members in delivering exceptional market experiences. By working closely with producers, local authorities, and other stakeholders, we strive to create thriving markets that benefit both farmers and consumers.
