About us

Tablehurst Community Farm is a social enterprise founded in the mid-1990s. The farm produces meat, poultry, vegetables, raw milk and arable crops to biodynamic and organic standards. Most of Tablehurst’s produce is sold through the farm shop, which is open six days a week.

The shop also offers an array of other organic produce including sourdough bread baked at Tablehurst, dairy products from our sister farm Plaw Hatch, local biodynamic eggs, and many other foodstuffs. We also now sell our meat online for home delivery nationwide.

The farm is open to the public and you are welcome to walk around. You can visit the animals, see the farmers and gardeners at work, and enjoy the spectacular Ashdown Forest scenery.

Our café is open five days a week and offers hot meals using farm produce, teas, coffees and farm-baked cakes.

The farm hosts an extensive programme of community events and offers lots of opportunities for volunteers to get involved in our work.

About us

Eggs to Apples is run by Susannah and Craig Hewett and a great team of knowledgeable and food loving people.

Susannah and Craig mark the third generation of the Barnes family to run a farm shop in the village.

The family has resided in Hurst Green since the 1960’s and their involvement in the local farming and village community has been fundamental to developing the concept of the business. Indeed, Eggs to Apples has been built on the site of the original Lodge Farm Shop started by Susannah’s father and grandfather in 1972. Soon after Lodge Farm Shop was established as they started to grow and sell soft fruit and vegetables from other local farmers.

The Barnes family moved sites to set up Orchard Farm Shop in 1989, it’s opening coinciding with the public’s shift towards food provenance and traceability.

Fast forward to 2009 and the now retired Richard Barnes seizes the opportunity to buy the original farm shop site which has been left derelict for 15 years.

Meanwhile, after cutting her teeth on the family business Susannah and Craig’s journey had taken them from Sussex to Newcastle, London, Brighton and to the Middle East where they took up the challenge of returning to build a new business from scratch on the old site.

The design and development of the shop was a true family affair with Richard and Patricia’s son Matthew and son in law Martin, heavily involved in the design, build and branding of the shop.

The basic principles of the original shop – fresh, local and seasonal are retained but Susannah and Craig and friends have brought the Farm Shop
concept into the 21st century whilst retaining the sense of family business. In fact, Richard and Patricia have partially come out of retirement as both mentors and chief pumpkin growers.

About us

Our Farm Shop takes pride of place at Rushfields. We have been regularly voted among the best in Sussex for high quality produce, and our shop offers fresh, home-made, local and seasonal foods to inspire you. You will find a huge variety of delicious goods, from fresh vegetables and award-winning homemade pies to cheeses, breads, gluten-free and organic ranges, and speciality groceries. True to traditional farm shops, we also have our own friendly butcher, Paul Channon and his team, who provide the best local beef, lamb, pork, chicken and game.

GOING LOCAL
Wherever possible, we source locally, reducing food miles and ensuring traceability. We complement this with fantastic products from further away, curating delicacies from artisan businesses and like-minded suppliers across the UK and beyond. By combining the best of both worlds, we are able to offer you delightful products without harming the environment. At the same time, we work on equal terms with the artisans and suppliers who provide us with delicious foods.

REGIONAL QUALITY
Because of our regional focus, we are able to offer only the best quality foods. We support local artisans who know how to make the tastiest bread, cheese or meat. Their professional techniques give the Sussex cheeses their creamy texture and the traditionally cured hams their salty taste. What’s more, here at Rushfields you will not find food produced through mass production, but handmade products that are made with the greatest of care.

SUPPORTING LOCAL FARMERS
Each year the non-profit organisation Natural Partnerships Community Interest Company organises a competition to find out who is the best Sussex Food and Drink Farm Shop of the Year. Thus, the organisation tries to raise money and awareness for local food production. In 2015 our Farm Shop was voted best Sussex Food and Drink Farm Shop, stimulating us to continue our ambition of supporting the local farming and food industry. Come on over, and we hope you’ll see why we were named Sussex Food and Drink Farm Shop of the Year in 2015. Our shop is open seven days a week, from 9 am till 5:30 pm.

About us

Tibbs Farm is a family run business situated in the countryside of Udimore in East Sussex near Rye. The farm has been growing hops and fruit for centuries and we began the pick your own and direct selling in the 1970’s.

We specialise in pick your own (PYO) fruit, such as, strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, loganberries, tayberries and gooseberries.

Depending on mother nature we generally start our pick your own fruit season around mid June for strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, loganberries, tayberries and gooseberries.

Come and enjoy the wonderful relaxed setting with superb views across the picturesque Tillingham Valley, ideal for picnics and fun days out for all the family.

The fruit is grown in a traditional manner with few modern gimmicks and very limited use of chemicals, through the growing season. Hence the season is short, but the fruit is distinct and full of flavour.

The varieties of fruit we grow from strawberries to gooseberries are chosen very carefully. They are chosen for their delicious juicy flavours. As well as pick your own, we also sell our fruit to local green grocers.Customers are encouraged to roam at will and ‘pick your own’. For those pressed for time there is a wide range of ready picked fruit.
